Monterey Plaza Hotel

Built up on stilts over the Monterey Bay, the Monterey Plaza is a beautiful, Mediterranean style 4-diamond luxury hotel on Cannery Row. Recently, they received a 4-star rating from Forbes - the only area hotel to receive his prestigious ranking. Although it is larger hotel, the way it is designed, it can make for an excellent romantic getaway.

One of the coolest things about their hotel is their attention to detail. You may seem them retouching or replacing something that seems in acceptable condition but their standards are quite high. Their General Manager has been there for quite some time and does an excellent job ensuring guest satisfaction. The dedicated concierge staff has a solid reputation of helping make your stay the best it can be with recommendations on activities and dining.

The guest rooms are very spacious (400 sq feet and larger) providing ample room to rest and relax in your room. Guest rooms are decorated with rich, dark woods including a large armoire, upholstered chairs, European duvet covers and separate vanity area. The bathrooms are beautiful with marble tops and separate vanity area. With their latest redecoration, guest rooms are tastefully simple - with high end linens and soft colors. Many of the rooms feature full ocean views. We're not talking about a view past several buildings and through telephone wires but a full view of the bay. Most of the ocean view rooms have a balcony - wide enough for a table and chairs to sit, relax and use the provided binoculars to check out the otters playing below. All guest rooms include two plush robes, refreshment center, large TV, and coffee maker. Room Service is available 24/7.

Aside from their standard guest rooms, they also offer 10 suites including a 1700 square foot suite and their Spa Terrace Suite (700 sq ft) which includes a fireplace and two whirlpool tubs (one indoors, one outdoors). Now that would make a great impression!

This full-service hotel includes a wide variety of amenities and services including a four-star ocean front restaurant (being remodeled through June, 2011), ocean front bistro (during high tide, the waves almost touch the dining room floor!), full-service spa with 21 treatment rooms, rooftop fitness center, cafe and a variety of shops.

Note: There is a $25 nightly resort fee which includes valet parking, high-speed wireless internet, and use of the spa facilities including the fitness center, whirlpool tubs, sundeck and sauna.
