The Tradewinds Carmel, featured in Architectural Digest Magazine, is an unexpected pleasure located just on the outskirts of downtown Carmel by the Sea. From the outside, it looks like a typical inn. But once you check in and start walking around the property and get in to your hotel room, you will see why this is one of the most popular places to stay. 

The Tradewinds was designed to stand out from the crowd. With a unique fusion of Asian, Balinese and tropical design, you will find a tranquil escape at this 28 guest room inn. Everything is perfectly in place. Guest rooms include custom fabrics, fine furnishings, Egyptian cotton linens, down pillows and featherbeds with a clean, crisp look. All guest rooms also have luxurious amenities such as Kimono robes, slippers, and some with a fireplace . Most of the guest rooms are done in very muted tones - basically beige and white with solid wood authentic furnishings from Bali and China, cooler refrigerators, and your own personal in-room table-top waterfall. The bathrooms were definitely not an afterthought and feature  tiled bathroom floors with granite countertops, Aveda bath amenities, extra-long bathtubs and some with in-room jetted tubs. Choose from deluxe guest rooms with one king, two queen beds as well as suites. 

 

Take a walk around the inn and get centered. There is a serenity garden, outdoor fireplace and a large patio area with a cascading waterfall. If you like the look of a 4-star "brass and glass" type of hotel (ala Four Seasons), I would not recommend this - but if you are looking for a unique romantic escape, the Tradewinds is a great place to relax and romance.
