Hotel Monaco

We didn't plan on viewing this hotel on our trip to the City. But a traditional looking, San Francisco style building with a "Grand Cafe" beckoned us in. When we walked in to the lobby of the Hotel Monaco, at first it gave the appearance of a big hotel. But somehow, it seemed quite calming and intimate at the same tie. There is no mistaking that this is an elegant , luxurious boutique hotel in San Francisco. Located right by Union Square and the theater district, you walk from the the outdoor pulse of the city and into a hotel where service is number one. A large fireplace, reminiscent of one you might find in a French Chateau, sits in the distance. There is a ethereal feeling as you view the murals of clouds above you, unique and decorative lighting and marble steps that ascend up a large staircase. It is really unlike any other hotel that we saw in San Francisco - elegant but without too much ritz to make you feel uncomfortable. 

 

The hotel, consistently rated as one of the top hotels by all of the review sites, includes over 200 guest rooms with 35 suites. The decor of the room matches up with the lobby - it is a bit unexpected but achieves a feeling of elegance and warmth at the same time. The idea is that you would feel like you do in your own home - surrounded by different styles that come together. The rooms have a lot of different patterns and styles - a whimsical decor yet fresh, comfortable and elegant. 

 

There are 20 canopy queen bedded rooms - and these canopies envelop the entire bed so that you can create your own private hideaway within your own room (very romantic!). Guest rooms are all outfitted with Kimptons 400 thread count frette sheets and down pillows so you know you'll have a good nights sleep after an evening out on the town. Another Kimpton signature are animal patterned terry cloth bath robes and luxurious Aveda bath amenities. The bathrooms are really large and beautiful with granite countertops. Guest rooms include 40 inch LCD flat screen TV's, iHome sound system docking station, and a fully-stocked honor bar with gourmet and organic options.

 

Extra special services offered by the hotel included a hosted one hour wine hour (typically hosted by the general manager), complimentary morning coffee and tea in the lobby, fitness center, and spa services including a sauna, steam and whirlpool). Want to relax in your room after a stressful day of shopping? The front desk will send up everything you need to enjoy yoga or Pilates in your room. The famous Grand Cafe Brasserie and Bar sits directly adjacent to the hotel.
